Hoops, huggies, studs, and drops come in different earring sizes, shapes, and styles. Hoop earrings loop through the piercing to form a complete or partial ring. They range from subtle to bold. Huggies are similar to hoops but their earring back type is hinged or a lever that securely holds the earring in place. This style "hugs" the ear rather than dangling from it like hoops. Studs are usually small and sit flat against the earlobe. A post runs through the piercing and is held in place by a backing. The gold in plated jewelry is a very thin layer that tends to wear down over time due to skin oils, sweat, skincare products, and friction. Once that layer rubs away, your skin is left in direct contact with the material underneath. Usually, this is an inexpensive core metal like copper, nickel, or brass. How do you care for fine gold earrings?
